15 Fantastic Cookbooks Inspired by Incredible Video Games

Now, I know there are tons of recipes out there that are themed after video games, but we are talking about cookbooks that were created to encompass the foods within video games. There are plenty of games that offer your character food to make and eat, sometimes they look so good you want to try them yourself. So, why not?

Skyrim

Skyrim is a role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios. The Elder Scrolls is the fifth main installment of this game and is available on Microsoft Windows, Playstation, and Xbox. The main story focuses on the player character (which you get to choose what race, color, and features your character has), the Dragonborn, on their quest to defeat Alduin. A dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world.

Now, I love open world games where you can discover, explore and collect a multitude of items. So, this was my style of game. The fact that they have food for your character is a bonus.

The Cookbook

Inspired by the video game series; The Elder Scrolls: The official cookbook is a must have for anyone whose set foot in the virtual world of Tamriel. It features over 60 recipes influenced by the diverse cultures of the medieval universe of Tamriel. Descriptions, step by step instruction, and a backstory explaining the dishes connection to the world of Nirm are provided for each recipe. Also included are beautiful photos to compliment each dish.

Destiny

Destiny is an online multiplayer first person shooter game developed by Bungie. Play the role of a guardian, protectors of Earth’s last safe city. They Wield a power called Light to protect the city from different alien races. Travel to different planets to destroy threats to humans and revive the celestial being called the Traveler.

Expansions to the game have been released and offer more to complete as you journey throughout the worlds within the game.

The Cookbook

Inspired by the video game series Destiny, this cookbook is filled with recipes inspired by the Guardians and locations seen through the game’s universe. Follow Eva Lavante as she traverses the world adding to her repertoire of recipes from the game’s unique world. Each recipe includes step-by-step instructions and full color photos.

This is a must have for all Hunters, Titians, and Warlocks who’ve traveled through this futuristic world.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is a massive multiplayer online role-playing released by Blizzard Entertainment in 2004 and is still highly popular today. Set in the Warcraft Fantasy universe of Azeroth. With eight major expansions, you have plenty to discover in the open world landscape. Players are able to create their character avatar and encourages players to work together to complete quest, enter dungeons and engage in player vs player combat.

There is an option to play this game solo without interacting with others. In this case, the game focuses on player progression, where the player earns experience points to level up their character. There is so much to do in this game. I have yet to play is as my husband is afraid I’ll never come away from the computer, but eventually I’ll get it. 😉

The Cookbook

If you’ve ever wondered what the food would taste like within the world of warcraft, this cookbook is what you’re looking for. These cookbooks features food pairings for each dish, ideas for crating your Azerothian feasts, and tips on adapting meals to specific diets.

Each chapter features dishes at a variety os skill levels, providing you with over 100 easy to follow recipes for food and brews. So, go take a look and make something delicious.

Overwatch

This team based multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment, give you a unique cooperative experience. As you enter the game, Overwatch assigns you into two teams of six. Each player selects from a large roster of characters, known as heroes with unique abilities to be. Teams work together to complete map-specific missions within a limited period of time. Blizzard provides more characters, maps, and game modes post-release, free of charge. They only purchasable items are optional loot boxes with cosmetic items.

Fallout

A post-apocalyptic role-playing game created by Interplay Entertainment. The series is set during the 21st, 22nd and 23rd centuries. Each game following a path of missions within the devastated world and years after to find things to survive and defeat enemies (mutants) that have other plans for the world in its new devastated state.

Each game is set years after each other and provide missions for those of the Vault Dwellers depending on the storyline for the current characters. Many spin-offs have been made along with multiple mobile games (pinball)

Minecraft

The building mania of Minecraft has entertained those young and old. The builds of completely simple to extremely complex design are what draw fans back to the Minecraft world. Players choose to play in survival mode or creative mode which allows you to discover and collect materials or have materials at your disposal to use. With so many real-life depicted creatures, I’m not surprised that there is a cookbook for this game.

Pokemon is one of those games that faded for a bit, but then exploded into a whole new era and has been a massive success since its conception. There are so many cards, games, and products out there with Pokemon who started with 150 and have now added so many more along with variations and evolutions of each one.

If you don’t know, in the games you are a Pokemon trainer destined to find, capture, train and battle your Pokemon against others to become the best Pokemon trainer in the world and regional Champion. You are then challenged to complete the regional Pokédex by collect all the available Pokemon species found within the game region and to complete the National Pokédex by transferring Pokemon from other regions.

Not only are you to catch and train your Pokemon, you must also take care of them. Feeding them, getting medical help when necessary and training to gain skills. Go ahead, try to catch them all!

Legend Of Zelda

Legend of Zelda, like Pokemon has been around for a long time. And if you’ve ever played Breath of the Wild, you know there are a ton of recipes you can make. From monstrous elixirs to delicious dishes, Legend of Zelda has it all.

You follow Link whose is a guard of Zelda, a Hylian princess with powers of her own, who fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon. Ganon is an evil warlord turned demon king, who wishes to use the Triforce to remake the world in his own dark image. How this maniac keeps coming back to torment Hyrule is beyond me, but that doesn’t stop us from picking up the controller to defeat him once again.

With over 195 recipes, this cookbook has something for everyone. Even those with specific dietary needs! There are over 125 vegan and 150 gluten free friendly dishes, but that should not come as a surprise since most of the foods you find in Breath of the wild are fruits, vegetables, berries, and meat you have to hunt of catch to eat.

Not only to do you get some amazing recipes, each page contains quotes from famous people and facts about the different games within the franchise.

Street Fighter

Not as popular as some of the others, but still worth mentioning as nostalgic value. Those that loved this game and possibly still play it as new editions are available, can find comfort that there is a cookbook out there of you to enjoy.

Final Fantasy is another one of those massive games that has remain popular as the years go by. Created by Hironobu Sakaguchi and developed and owned by Square Enix. Centering on a series of fantasy and science fantasy role-playing, each with different settings, plots and main characters. Each plot centered on a particular group who are battling a great evil, while exploring the characters internal struggles and relationships.

Assassin’s Creed

Yet another long ranged game with open world exploration published by Ubisoft and developed by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil. Each assassin is tasked to take out the Templar threat throughout history. Assassins are fighting for peace and free will while Templars desire peace through order and control.

The games are intertwined with real-world historical events and figures. Players control a historical Assassins missioned with taking out the templars along with side mission from NPC and collecting chests, learning skills, and so much more.

The Witcher

The Sims

A life simulated bid game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. The Sims have been around for quite a while and the things you can do within the game have only gotten better. (and quite hilarious, if you’ve been online). The player creates virtual people called “Sims”, places them in pre-constructed houses or build their homes, and then directs their moods and satisfies their desires. These virtual lives can get really interesting in the things they can do from letting their friends starve to seeing ghosts. At least, from what I’ve seen posted. There’s really quite a lot you can do.
